Education
Education about the types of drugs, the misuse of drugs, and the inappropriate use of alcohol is very important. Drugs commonly abused today are far different than those available in the 1960's, 1970's, and the 1980's. Most notably is the dramatic rise in the misuse of prescription drugs as well as a wider range of "designer" and "illicit" drugs.
The effects and symptoms of alcohol and drug misuse need to be communicated throughout the organization, as well as the methods used to deter and detect abuse.
An ongoing corporate-wide communications program on all of these topics is needed to assure information is current, and appropriate awareness is maintained.
Training
Training is available at supervisory and test administration levels to assure program integrity. Types of training includes specimen collection, test administration and documentation, recognitions of the symptoms of substance misuse, as well as how to communicate and act in situations involving substance abuse.
Certification
We recommend that all test administrators be certified through a process of training, and a certification examination. A database is maintained by Navigent 3 of all certified administrators.
